General Information
The Community Language School named as ‘Australian Marathi Vidyalaya’ (AMV). ‘Marathi Association Sydney Incorporated’ (MASI) is AMV’s proud sponsor. AMV is an educational institution with executive committee (EC) & constitution. AMV is a non-profit organisation. Australian Marathi Vidyalaya is avid about promoting the Marathi language for cultural and educational purposes among Marathi communities and is not to be involved in discussions of activities of any political nature as well as in any commercial activities. AMV is a member of the umbrella organisation for community languages in the Illawarra ‘Association of Illawarra Community Languages Schools Incorporated’ (AICLS).
- To provide the optimum opportunities for the young generation of the Marathi community living in Sydney to be literate in their mother tongue – Marathi.
- To enable the Marathi community to maintain their cultural identity within the multi-cultural framework of the Australian society.
- To raise awareness of the cultural heritage and values which are closely linked to Marathi language.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE
- To enable students to acquire and develop necessary competency skills in the Marathi language with regard to oral and written communication skills & gain insights into the relationship between language and culture, leading to lifelong personal, educational and vocational benefits.
- To support the students in making Linguistic Connections – exploring the Marathi language as systems leading to an appreciation of the correct application of linguistic structures and vocabulary.
- To provide optimum opportunities for the students to develop the knowledge of the culture of Marathi-speaking communities and an understanding of the interdependence of language and culture, thereby encouraging reflection on their own cultural heritage.
- To ensure the functioning of Australian Marathi Vidyalaya within the framework of the guidelines issued by NSW Community Languages School Program for the syllabus, educational activities, training courses for executive committee and teachers and any other Marathi school related activities.
- Parents and teachers speaking Marathi, members of MASI and all persons interested to promote Marathi language are eligible for membership of AMV. A register of members shall be kept showing, in respect of each member, the name, address and the date of commencement of membership.
